The Situation

RTS is a pioneer company in the oil fields sector; Its objective is to extend the life of the equipment by guaranteeing its integrity and that of the oil wells. When obtaining the pipeline from the oil wells, reconditioning those that are in optimal condition for reuse and full use when they are installed again, it is necessary to obtain information from them for their maintenance and long-term study.

It is here where the analysis of information and technological innovation acquire an intrinsic value, translating into greater agility in decision-making and optimization of resources and processes.

The project went beyond both teams’ expectations, which resulted in the creation of technology and innovation through collaboration and the timely work of the people involved.

Opportunity

In its beginnings, RTS found itself in a situation where:

  • Control of inventories and supply chains was centralized in a single application, which had this series of limited and superficial functionalities of the materials that enter and leave the facilities.
  • Databases were updated manually and third party reported an estimate of the inventories and historical data.
Our Approach

The greatest challenge was to transform inventories technologically, since by not having automations and new technologies, their operation lacked transparency and visibility in real time.

Restructure the existing application or design a new one? A total change would be the key to success.

It was clear that resources were being wasted, operating errors were on the rise, and maintenance costs were high and unnecessary. High-performance, scalable software was needed with the ability to change and adapt to the complexity of operations, inside and outside of RTS.Taking a basic system and transforming it into technological innovation that would allow RTS to go to the next level was not easy.

A series of tactics and strategies consisted of:

Legacy Maintenance

By replacing the existing application with a new interface, the implementation of the software developed by Icalia Labs was a long, difficult and painful process, where the main challenges were the following:

  • Migrate from a traditional operation to a new one, in its entirety.
  • Change staff’s mentality.
  • Training for the use of the new interface.
  • Data migration to the new interface.
  • Implementation of necessary changes and adaptations in the new interface.

Design Sprint

It consisted of an exhaustive analysis of the needs of RTS, to determine that a total redesign of the application was needed, adding added values ​​such as process improvement and a good user experience.

NEW Well Data Software

In addition to obtaining a fully functional inventory, Well Data was added as part of the functionalities of the new software. This technology is distinguished because it works in tandem with the new inventory, in addition to offering a visualization of the state of the oil wells and the process.

Implementation

How to do it without stopping or affecting the existing operation? The answer was to carry out the Microservices, which determined the best way to implement the new software through carefully planned actions.

New Functionalities

One of the most important functionalities for RTS, that was added to the platform with which it is possible to modify and synchronize inventories, even without Internet access, generating great cost savings and unprecedented human capital.
